The Girl with All the Gifts
by M R Carey
"Every morning, Melanie waits in her cell to be collected for class. When they come for her, Sergeant keeps his gun pointing at her while two of his people strap her into the wheelchair. She thinks they don't like her. She jokes that she won't bite, but they don't laugh."
The Girl with All the Gifts is not your usual post-apocolypic zombie story. Told in shifting points of view, the story follows, Melanie, her teacher, the sergeant who guards her but would rather shoot her, and the scientist convinced that Melanie's brain holds the key to saving humanity, who must all band together if they want to survive. Plot twists and lots of action keep the reader hooked. Be warned: this book is not for the faint of heart. Graphic descriptions of violence, cursing, and some sexual situations target a young adult audience.

The Maximum Ride books are action packed and humorous, but they are some things you need to know. First of all the author of these amazing books is James Patterson if you decide to read them. Maximum Ride is about six kids who were genetically enhanced to have wings and the adventures they have. This book has a lot of fight scenes and language is mild. Overall the Maximum Ride series are amazing books because the idea of six kids with wings, super human abilities, and awesome fights that will keep you on the edge of your seat. These fights go deep in detail and can seem a little disgusting. The language is mild which means they do curse, but not a lot. For these reasons I personally recommend these books for eleven and up even though they are considered young adult (YA) You also have to be able to read long series because each book is about 400 pages long and there are eight books ( nine in January).
